Nation Building
In December 2008 the Australian Government announced a Nation Building package. As part of this package, the Government is investing $4.7 billion in the Nation Building Program and other infrastructure projects. The Government will invest an additional $711 million in 2008-09 and 2009-10, balanced by reductions in expenditure required in later years, to accelerate construction of 14 roads projects already announced under the Nation Building program. The Government will also invest an additional $90 million in the Black Spots program in 2008-09.
Under the new measures related to the Australian Government's Nation Building Package and Nation Building & Jobs Plan, the Australian Government is investing an additional $618.4 million on land transport infrastructure in 2008-09. Funding includes $328.4 million to accelerate construction of 14 road projects announced in the election.

- Goulburn Valley Highway - Nagambie Bypass 1
- Princes Highway East Duplication - Traralgon to Sale 1
- Western Highway - Anthony's Cutting Realignment
- Western Ring Road Upgrade1
- Mandurah Entrance Road
- Northern Expressway and Port Wakefield Road Upgrade 1
- Midland Highway - Brighton Bypass 1
