Project Description

This project involves the upgrade of North East Freight Roads in Tasmania to cater for higher mass limits and includes replacement of the Tebrakunna Bridge. The new bridge over the Ringarooma River, estimated to cost $1.74 million, is a single lane concrete structure.

The Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources is currently developing the remaining program of works to be delivered over the next three to four years.

Benefits

The project will provide safer and more efficient freight links for higher mass limit vehicles from the forests and regional centres in north east Tasmania through to Bell Bay.

Completion of the Tebrakunna Bridge will reduce the need for log trucks to use the Tasman Highway through the Weldborough Pass improving efficiency and reducing conflict with other traffic on this Highway.

Funding

The project is jointly funded with the Australian Government contributing $34 million and the Tasmanian Government contributing the balance.

Timetable

Planning has commenced with construction expected to be completed by mid 2013.

Construction of the Tebrakunna Bridge was completed on 31 March 2010.
