Project DescriptionThis project involves both refurbishment of the Bridgewater Bridge and upgrading of the junction of the Midland and Lyell Highways.
Repairs to Bridgewater Bridge's steel superstructure and concrete substructure will be undertaken and the bridge reopened to river traffic.
At the Midland - Lyell Highways Junction on the southern side of the Bridgewater Bridge a new roundabout will be built to replace the existing traffic islands. BenefitsThe project will address structural and safety issues for the Bridgewater bridge and extend its operating life.
The Midland - Lyell Highway Junction upgrade will see improved safety and improved traffic movement efficiency. FundingThe Australian Government is funding the full project cost of $14 million. TimetableConstruction on the junction upgrade was completed in December 2009. The refurbishment of the bridge commenced in December 2009 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. |
