Intermodal

Intermodal facilities are drivers in achieving improved national transport efficiency. As the movement of freight by a variety of modes becomes more common the pressure will mount to ensure better integration of freight flows between transport modes.

The ownership and operation of intermodal terminals is largely undertaken by the private sector.

Several key road/rail linkages to national infrastructure facilities, including links to ports, are being funded. Details of these projects can be found through the project search page, see below.

The National Intermodal Terminal Study identified the key locations and characteristics of intermodal terminals across the country. Details of the National Intermodal Terminal Study and its findings can be found on the Transport Publications page.
